Look Into The Eyes Of A Butterfly

Last weekend I was on a hike with a friend just north of the city and although I was immersed in nature, which was peaceful and quiet, my inner nature was anything but calm. My mind was racing with thoughts of the past week and flooded with anticipation of the weeks ahead.

We sat down by a small lake to take in the calming environment when a butterfly came and sat down on my hand. I was still and so was she. I brought my hand up close to my face for a closer look at this visitor and noticed it’s big beautiful black round eyes. I had never seen the eyes of a butterfly, never even had the thought cross my mind before.

LOOKING INTO THE EYES OF A BUTTERFLY IS A METAPHOR FOR STILLNESS FOR ME.

Cultivating stillness in our physical, mental and emotional presence these days may feel challenging. When was the last moment you felt still? With your body, mind and emotions?

Cultivating Stillness

In a state of stillness, physically, mentally and emotionally, I continue to become more aware and connect with my own reality. Both my own inner reality and the reality outside of me. I learn to become aware of the beauty that exists in what is already there and can’t help but feel grateful. Grateful for the people, experiences and knowledge that I get to enjoy in life. The world may seem like a scary place these days but taking a moment to be still, I feel that there is a lot that is right.

WITH STILLNESS, I START TO EXPERIENCE THE WISDOM THAT MY OWN INNER TEACHER AND GUIDE HAS TO OFFER ME AND STOP LOOKING OUTSIDE FOR ANSWERS, VALIDATION, BEAUTY, CONTENTMENT AND CLARITY.

Strengthening the capability and capacity for stillness through practice is thanks to the many tools I’ve come to rely on. These days, my tools include meditation, yoga, journaling and reading. For others it may be walking, running, hiking, or swimming.

THE SPECIFIC TOOLS MATTER LESS, WHAT MATTERS MORE FROM MY EXPERIENCE IS THE CONTINUITY OF PRACTICE.

Whenever you may be feeling stressed, overwhelmed, anxious or confused, choose to take a moment to look into the eyes of a butterfly. And with this feeling of stillness, you may feel more grounded, stable and strong. With greater clarity, you can now reset and choose where you place your focus as you set your intentions for the moments that lay ahead.
